In fact, it’s the last stop before permanent hair removal, so it does have its advantages. The results last two to four weeks, and continued waxing leads to diminished hair growth over time.

The wax lasts about six to eight weeks, and Dr. Travis says that professional waxing is preferable to home kits, which can be dangerous.

Dionne wants to know if it’s safe to get a Brazilian wax, which is a bikini wax that takes “all the hair off from the front, the back, the bottom,” Dr. Oz says.

Dr. Oz says it is “absolutely safe” to get a Brazilian wax, although your skin is fragile and prone to pimples for a short time afterward. There are some products you can put on your skin to prevent the pimples, he says.

If you are going to go Brazilian, Dr. Oz says to make sure the wax is clean—don’t use wax that has been used on someone else. Also, check the wax to make sure it’s not too hot.

• Any stray hairs will be removed with tweezers. If you already chose a patch of hair to remain, this can now be trimmed and shaped.

Be advised that you really want to consult a licensed professional for this procedure. This isn’t like an eyebrow tweezing; painful complications can result if done by someone who’s not as knowledgeable about this process as they need to be. Likewise, this isn’t a home grooming treatment you can expect to perform on yourself with any sort of good results.

Finding a trained aesthetician isn’t difficult. If you know someone who can recommend one, that’s preferable to just looking in the phone book and hoping for the best.
